Pieta House therapeutic model

We’ve devised our own therapeutic model. We concentrate on what causes a person to self-harm rather than their actions. We help people to speak out when they’re distressed, rather than hurting themselves.

Above all, we firmly believe that compassion, respect and working closely with the person is the most effective form of therapy.

All our therapists are experienced, compassionate men and women who understand the complex reasons behind suicide and self-harm. As well as their professional qualifications*, each therapist is trained in the Pieta Way.

This therapeutic healing model is focused on solving problems and building strength. It’s a process that can show people how to shape their outlook on life.

We’re confident the Pieta Way works. We’ll be sharing this knowledge with other professionals at the next International Association of Suicide Prevention Conference.

We are also working on research involving people who have been through the Pieta Way and are happy to share their experiences of our therapeutic model with us.

*All Pieta House therapists are psychotherapists or psychologists whose qualifications are recognised by the Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (IAHIP), the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) or the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI).
