What happens next?

The first step is to call Pieta House 1800 247 247. If you don’t feel you can manage this, ask a friend or family member to call us for you. Then we’ll arrange an appointment where we can assess your needs. We usually ask your friend or family member to come with you to the first appointment.

There’s nothing to worry about when you are coming to see us. We’ll always treat you with dignity and respect. And we’ll welcome you warmly. You can have a tea or coffee and talk to one of our team, so we can try to identify why you find yourself in crisis.

After this first appointment, we’ll arrange for one of our therapists to start the healing work with you. You’ll see them as soon as possible.

It’s really important that a good relationship is created between you and your therapist. If you don’t feel that you’ve connected with them after a couple of sessions, we wll change you to another therapist.

Depending on your availability and on how you’re feeling, you’ll see your therapist at least twice a week. If you agree, we can advise your family and friends on how to support you. We know weekends can be difficult, so there is always a therapist on call if you need to talk to someone.

Sessions usually last about 50 minutes and they are always free of charge.
