Getting Involved

We welcome the opportunity to collaborate with research partners to better understand suicide and deliberate self-harm.  However, due to the sensitive nature of our work and the rights of our vulnerable clients, there are several requirements that must be fulfilled before conducting research with us.

1 – Get Ethical Approval

We can only accept proposals that have already received ethical approval

Due to the sensitive nature of the work conducted at Pieta House any research request or proposal that involves discussing suicide or deliberate self-harm with our clients or staff requires ethical approval from an independent research ethics committee. This ensures that even seemingly innocent questions don’t have a negative effect on participants. If you’re a student your college may have its own research ethics committee.

2 – Submit Proposal

Once you have ethical approval in place complete the Research Proposal Submission Form at the bottom of this page. If you’d like to discuss your proposal before you have received ethical approval use the same form and indicate that approval has not been received.

Please note: We do not provide a referral service for other research projects, select or filter clients for research with external groups, or pass personal information about our clients, their histories, or treatment to any third parties.

If you’d like some more information about the work of the research department, would like to conduct research with us, or would like to volunteer for research opportunities as they arise please complete the form below.
